An Eastern Cape Education Specialist was sentenced to 10 years in jail in the Grahamstown Regional Court for raping an 18-year-old woman last year.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Mkhuseli Xamleko, was sentenced on Friday, a day after being convicted of the crime.
NPA spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani, said the incident happened on 11 February when Xamleko was visiting friends and the teenager walked past the house.
She said she greeted the group of friends gathered in the yard and Xamleko offered her a lift home as it was dark, which she accepted.
Ngcakani said after buying food he took the young woman to his flat where he demanded sex and when she resisted Xamleko threatened her with an iron rod before raping her.
He was arrested the following day.
“The Grahamstown Regional Court complied with legislation which prescribed a minimum of 10-years for first-time rape offender,” Ngcakani said.
