The Eastern Cape Education Department says good progress is being made in the delivery of textbooks to schools ahead of the 2013 school year.
That's according to acting superintendent-general, Mthuywa Ngonzo.
Speaking to the media in East London he said the Department has already procured more than R330m worth of textbooks for the new academic year.
"We have procured R334m textbooks, and as of yesterday 332 milion was already delivered and 90% of those are already on their way to schools" Ngonzo said.
Meanwhile, Ngonzo says the Department is putting systems in place to improve maths and literacy in 2013.
He says the province had received promising results from the recent annual national assessment exams.
" We have put up a literacy and numeracy strategy which intends to improve our performance in 2013 and maths and language performance of our children from Grade 1 to Grade 12 " Ngonzo said
