The Eastern Cape Education Department has launched an internal investigation into an alleged case of the sexual violation of a 12-year-old boy by another learner at a school in Buffalo City.
Department spokesperson, Mali Mtima, said the alleged incident happened on Tuesday at the school's boarding facility.
He said the alleged victim was taken to Grey Hospital in King Williams Town.
"Upon receiving the report from the Circuit Manager responsible for the school, the Department made sure that the case was reported to the police so that the law can take its course," he said.
Mtima said the Department of Education also alerted the parents of both learners while the alleged perpetrator was sent home but has not been suspended.
He said the alleged victim was also taken for counselling and further support will be provided.
"A full investigation will be conducted and the outcome thereof will determine further course of action including disciplinary action,".
Mtima said the department would be in constant contact with the school to make sure that necessary support has been provided to the alleged victim, learners, and staff members.
He said the Eastern Cape Department of Education is encouraging learners to report such cases or incidents of this nature to the police.
