A total of 264 police members in the Eastern Cape have criminal records.
That's according to Safety MEC, Helen Sauls-August, in reply to a parliamentary question from the Democratic Alliance.
Sauls-August also revealed that there were 474 pending criminal cases against members of the SA Police Service in the Eastern Cape.
It was revealed in another report, tabled in National Parliament last week, that the Eastern Cape was the province with the second highest number of SAPS members with criminal records, after Gauteng.
The highest number of members who had committed multiple offenses, namely 133, was from the Eastern Cape.
