EC cops make big drug bust in EL

The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have arrested a foreign national and seized drugs worth more than R1.8m.

Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni, said that the arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation between the Hawks and the East London Cluster Crime Intelligence Unit on Saturday.

“At about 6:30pm (Sat) the members pounced on the 45-year-old at Sohco Flats in Amalinda, East London. After searching his flat they found a safe in his bedroom laden with tik, cocaine and crack cocaine,” said Captain Feni.

“Hawks and Crime Intelligence members also found similar drugs hidden inside the bathroom sink,” she said.

Captain Feni said that the total street value of the tik is approximately R1.8m while the combined value of the cocaine and crack cocaine is R85 0000.

“Almost R12500 in cash and equipment to manufacture the drugs was also seized,” said Feni.

The 45-year-old man is expected to appear before the East London Magistrate court on Tuesday, 26 September 2017.
