Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt for one of two suspects who robbed the Maclear Post Office.
One of the men was killed in a shoot-out in a plantation near Qumbu after the two abandoned their getaway vehicle as police closed in.
Police spokesperson, Captain Ursual Roelofse, says the suspects held up Post Office staff early on Tuesday morning and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe before fleeing in a Ford Ranger bakkie.
An intensive four-hour search was carried out by Maclear police assisted by Mthatha and Elliot K9 unit members who were tracking the vehicle via its GPS, leading to the eventual gunbattle.
Roelofse said police recovered the vehicle, an R4 rifle and two magazines, but no cash.
She said police are following all leads to trace and arrest the second man.
