Eastern Cape police arrested 1 802 suspects during Safer Festive Season operations across the province.
Colonel Sibongile Soci said the arrests were made between 21 and 28 December and related to liquor-related crimes, illegal dealing in liquor, drunk in public as well as cases of assault.
She said 116 suspects were arrested for crimes detected as a result of police action, 26 were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, while the remainder were arrested for drug-related and other crimes.
An assortment of dangerous weapons was seized during the operations.
Soci said all the arrested suspects appeared in various courts across the province while others were issued with a summons to pay fines.
