Eastern Cape police have arrested over 1 800 suspects for various crimes committed in the province over the past week.
Spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni says this forms part of Operation Safer Festive season.
He says 86 motorists were arrested for drunk driving between the 4th and 11th of November.
Tonjeni says most of these arrests were in East London, King Williams Town and Mdantsane where officials also targeted illegal liquor outlets and public disorder.
Police also confiscated 31 firearms, 445 knives and 11 pangas during various raids and arrested 62 suspects for murder.

Common assault: 105

Burglary: 65
Illegal liquor outlets: 59
Police say these crime prevention operations will continue throughout the festive season.
