EC cop shot by traffic cop husband


An Eastern Cape policewoman who recently did duty at the Afcon tournament in Nelson Mandela Bay, has been shot dead by her husband.

Provincial police spokesperson, brigadier Marinda Mills, says its "alleged that Constable Nompucuko Toni, 30, was shot by her husband during a domestic quarrel upon her return from Port Elizabeth after the completion of her AFCON tour of duty."

"Her husband, a traffic official shot her with his official firearm on Sunday, 10 February at 22:55 at their home in Mthatha. It is suspected that he then shot himself in the upper body," she said.

"He is currently in a serious condition and under Police guard at the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha. A case of murder has been opened and investigations are under way," Mills added.

She says Constable Toni had served in the SAPS for six years. The couple had a two-year-old boy.
