Police in the Eastern Cape has called for a thorough investigation after a policeman shot and killed his girlfriend and cousin before taking his own life.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 34-year-old Constable was on duty on Sunday when he went to a local tavern in Bell near Peddie to look for his girlfriend.
She says he aggressively demanded that she accompany him outside and her cousin followed them outside.
Colonel Naidu says shots were fired fatally wounding the girlfriend, 23-year-old Siviwe Ncanywa and her 35-year-old cousin Siyabonga Malimani.
The Constable drove off in the direction of Port Alfred where he took his own life on the Mooifontein gravel road, 60 km away.
It is believed that the double murder was motivated by jealousy.
A double murder and inquest docket was opened.
