A cold snap that swept across the Eastern Cape over past few days has killed at least 500 sheep in parts of the province.
The Eastern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance says the animal deaths were reported in the Sterkspruit and Lady Grey areas, including surrounding villages.
Department spokesperson, Mamkeli Ngam, says heavy rain also damaged RDP houses in the Raymond Mhlaba Municipality.
He says a cold front will kick-in on Sunday afternoon, with very cold weather expected from Monday including snow.
The Department has a team on the ground to determine the extent of the damage before an intervention plan can be activated.
