Police divers have recovered the body of an eight-year-old Eastern Cape boy who drowned in the Kei River on Saturday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, said that the boy was swimming with friends at Keilands when he disappeared under the water.
She said the child’s friends alerted the community.
“The community members went to look for him and when they couldn't find him they phoned the police at about 17:30 on Saturday. SAPS members attended and divers were also called to the scene, but it was late already.”
“The divers and search and rescue then attended the scene yesterday (Sunday) and found the body,” she said.
An inquest has been opened for investigation.
