The Mandela Bay Development Agency has called for proposals by artists across the Eastern Cape who are interested in producing a public artwork for the Baakens Street Circle.
Dorelle Sapere of MBDA says the competition is open to all artists working or living in the Eastern Cape, or who can prove a strong affiliation and history to the Nelson Mandela Bay region.
Sapere says the vision for the art piece is for it to reflect the nature of its environment in close proximity to the harbor.
"Basically what we are looking the art piece to do is to provide an entrance gateway to the city and to talk about the fact that we are a maritime city that there are a lot of history at the port and so part of the brief is to look at the use of recycled materials as far as possible and preferably material that could be sources in a harbor environment" Sapere said.
