The Constitutional Court judgment on the security upgrades at the private residence of President Jacob Zuma was high on the agenda at the ANC in the Eastern Cape's Special Provincial Executive Committee meeting, which was held at the Nelson Mandela Bay City Hall on Sunday.
"The PEC after exhaustive deliberation on the matter welcomes the leadership provided by the National Officials regarding the outcome of the Constitutional Court. Eastern Cape PEC supports the process for further engagements with the organisational structures of the movement as well as a broad rage of interested parties who wish to engage with the ANC on this matter," said ANC provincial spokeserson Mlibo Qoboshiyane.
"The PEC fully and extensively considered the role of chapter 9 institutions, the executive reaffirmed its unconditional support for the judiciary and chapter 9 institutions that are critical to uphold and promote the provisions of the constitution of the republic of South Africa which it continues to recognize as the supreme law of the country as a founding father's of post liberation state envisaged."
He said the ANC in the Eastern Cape was also "opposed to both conventional and unconventional means to remove Zuma from office, adding that the Eastern Cape would oppose such a move as it woud create political turmoil."
He said the PEC also endorsed and welcomed Zuma's apology, and accepted that he demonstrated humility and acted in good faith.
Qoboshiyane said this displayed the ANC's character of respect and unprecedented courage.
He said the other issues that were discussed, included the relationship between the state and business, the general state of the organisation in the province, and updates on the build-up activities towards the ANC's election manifesto launch at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on 16 April.
Qoboshiyane also said that "the PEC repudiates and reject any purported state capture in South Africa. Any attempt by any individual, family and business groups to seek undue influence on state must be totally rejected with the contempt it deserves."
"The provincial executive committee further propose that government must urgently deal with the implementation of Mangaung decision on radical economic transformation, beneficiation of mineral resources, investing on rural economy and skills that will drive much needed jobs and work opportunities. The white monopoly capital, the market driven reaction and world economic climate is really threatening emerging economies," Qoboshiyane said.
"Therefore any reckless regime change, capital " dictatorship" and undue political posturing by the same market on domestic affairs of the state will create a serious instability. South African government and the ANC should develop strong regulatory monitoring of this environment."
