An Eastern Cape woman has allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death because he would not give her a cigarette.
Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha says the incident happened on Thursday evening at the Skiet informal settlement in Butterworth.
He says police were reliably informed that the motive for the murder was that the deceased allegedly failed to give the suspect a cigarette so that she could smoke.
He says the 24-year old woman was still at the scene when police arrived.
She was arrested, and will appear in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on a murder charge on Monday.
