Legendary jazz musician, Jonas Gwangwa has been conferred with his first honorary doctorate in music education by the Walter Sisulu University, at a graduation ceremony at the institution's Mthatha campus on Saturday.
University spokesperson, Angela Church says Gwangwa received the honorary degree of Doctor of Education in Music Education in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development and promotion of African arts and culture, and in particular his passionate commitment to engendering jazz music as a genre through his unique originality and creative abilities.
Gwangwa says his dream was to study science and get involved in inventions, whilst his parents wanted him to be a medical doctor.
