Eastern Cape worker dies in cave-in

A road construction worker was buried alive, after a trench he was working in, caved in near Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape on Friday.

Sapa reports that the 31-year-old man was inspecting the trench when it collapsed.

It took more than six hours to dig his body out of the sand.

It is alleged that the construction company's safety officer did not inspect the trench before the worker went in.
