The main railway line between Port Elizabeth and the interior has been closed due to the derailment of a goods train near Middleton.
A Transnet Freight Rail spokesperson, Mike Asefovitz, says a train carrying manganese derailed on Sunday morning shortly before 11 o'clock.
No-one was injured in the incident when 35 wagons derailed on the single line.
The result is that the line has been closed to all rail traffic.
Asefovitz says teams are on site to assist with the clean-up and re-railing of the train, but it is not yet known when the line will be reopened.
