Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa, will lead today's 23rd anniversary commemoration of the Bhisho Massacre.
Eastern Cape premier, Phumulo Masualle and members of his executive committee will join the families of the 28 people who died on this day in 1992.
They were killed when soldiers from the erstwhile Ciskei government opened fire on the ANC marchers who were marching to call for an end to the bantustan system.
More than 200 people were wounded. One soldier also died that day.
Andile Nduna is the spokesperson for the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture.
"The proceedings of the day will start with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the graves in Gingsberg and then a march to relive their steps from the Victoria grounds to the Bhisho memorial site" he said.
