Eastern Cape to benefit from Brics partnerships


 Eastern Cape premier Noxolo Kiviet says the province is set to gain billions of rand from South Africa's partnership with the emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China, commonly known as BRICS.

Kiviet was speaking in East London on Friday night to mark the Eastern Cape's hosting of a national roadshow in the build up to the historic fifth BRICS summit in Durban later in March.

The premier told government officials, NGO's and other stakeholders that the Eastern Cape has begun to reap the benefits of these relationships.

She pointed to the rise in exports of wool, sheep skin, wood pulp and mealie meal from the province as well as the investments being made into the Coega Industrial Development Zone.

Kiviet also said that Chinese state oil company Sinopec will bring to fruition to the much talked about Project Mthombo, the oil refinery project by Petro SA mooted for the Coega IDZed.
