Eastern Cape sangoma was to testify at Marikana Commission

An Eastern Cape sangoma who was gunned down outside his home in Mbizana on Sunday would have given evidence to the Marikana Commission of Inquiry.

Commission spokesperson, Tshepo Mahlangu, confirmed that Alton Joja, also known as Ndzabe, would have been called as a witness for the SA Police Service.

He was gunned down by five men yesterday who were armed with handguns and automatic weapons. The hunt for them continues.

Mahlangu told Algoa FM News that it would be speculation to link his murder to the evidence he was expected to present to the Marikana Commission.

"It is a difficult question to answer for the fact that we dont know the motivation for the police. We are told he was a traditional doctor so it is possible and very likely that he had some part to play in the conduct of the strikers because there is something mentioned about them having consulted with a traditional leader" he said.
