Eastern Cape Safety MEC assesses schools ahead of the new school year

 Eastern Cape Safety MEC, Helen Sauls August begins a series of visits to schools from Monday to assess their readiness for the 2013 school year.

Her spokesperson, Arnold Scholtz, says she will be visiting several schools in Nelson Mandela Bay as well as schools in Uitenhage and Breidbach near King Williams Town.

He says during the visit, MEC Sauls August will interact with school management and governance structures.

Scholtz says she will also look at safety aspects at schools.

"The MEC is going to these schools to basically check the state of readiness, this is in line with the executive council decision that was taken in 2006 where the executive members have to go out and do assessments but also encourage teachers as well as learners as well as the school governing bodies with regards to education methods and so forth" Scholtz said.
