The Eastern Cape province is owed more than R4.7b in outstanding rates and service fees by consumers.
That's according to Local Government MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, in a written reply to a parliamentary question from the Democratic Alliance.
According to the figures, Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is owed more than R42m for water, electricity and rates.
Buffalo City Metro is owed more than R867m.
DA MPL, Dacre Haddon, says the total of R4b would go a long way to building infrastructure and maintaining schools, hospitals and roads.
