Eastern Cape police will implement Operation Paseka ahead of the Easter holidays this weekend.
The operation will focus on priority crime areas throughout the province.
Provincial police spokeperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, says all major roads in the province will be closely monitored for any activity during the holiday period.
She says there will be planned operations to prevent all types of crime, particularly serious crimes such as aggravated robberies, crimes against women and children, assault and stock theft.
Soci says the proliferation of firearms and other dangerous weapons will be another operational priority, as these are used in muggings and attacks of innocent people.
She added that police would also focus on illegal shebeens and abuse of alcohol by individuals.
