Eastern Cape men jailed for six-year-old crime


Four Eastern Cape men have been jailed for an effective 25 years for a 2008 attack on a pension payment company in Ibika Industrial area in Butterworth.

Thirty-two-year-old Nomthinjana Magwaca, was killed and a colleague who was injured suffered permanent eye damage.

Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says the men stole more than twenty fire arms from Cash Paymaster Service. He says some of the fire arms were recovered.

Manatha says the four were sentenced in the High Court sitting in Butterworth on Friday.

"The accused Sandile Goniwe aged 32, Mlungiseleli Gqwetha aged 29,Mncedisi Dondashe aged 38 and Vusumzi Ngxekana aged 35 were each sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for murder, 10 years for armed robbery, 5 years for possession of fire arm and 5 years for possession of ammunition."

The case was investigated by the East London Organised Crime Unit based at Butterworth under the command of Detective Warrant Officer Mlingani Nombe.
