Four young Eastern Cape men, including two teens, have appeared in court in Alexandria for the rape and murder of a local woman whose charred remains were found in her burnt out house.
The suspects, two of whom are 16 and 18, were remanded in custody until tomorrow for them to obtain their own legal counsel.
The state is expected to oppose any bail application.
Provincial police spokesperson, captain Ernest Sigobe, says the suspects were arrested in Kwan-Nonqubela Township in Alexandria at the weekend.
Meanwhile, a man has also appeared in the Alexandria magistrate's court for being in posession of explosives.
Police said 33 year old Sifiso Ngomezulu was arrested on Sunday by a local police patrol when they noticed him hiding in shrubs in the town.
Upon further investigation, they found the suspect in possession of a sport bag containing commercial explosives.
Ngomezulu was remanded in custody until the 10th of May when he's expected to apply for bail.
