Eastern Cape learner killed in accident near Uitenhage

One learner was killed and 20 others were injured, after a minibus taxi overturned on the R75 between Uitenhage and Despatch on Friday evening.

Police spokesperson, WO Basil Seekoei says the group from Moses Mabida High School was returning from an educational tour at Coega, when the accident happened.

He says it is alleged that the driver was speeding when he lost control over the vehicle.

Seekoei says the injured were taken to Uitenhage Provincial Hospital.

He says the driver was not at the scene when paramedics and emergency services arrived.

Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide and reckless and/or negligent driving.
