Eastern Cape is SA's stock theft capital

EC Saps confiscated 47 stolen sheep in Katkop earlier this month.

The Eastern Cape is the country's livestock theft capital of the country.

That's according to Safety MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe.

In a speech prepared for a virtual presentation on Friday, she said that the Eastern Cape is home to eight of the top ten police stations countrywide, where stock theft is rife.

The MEC says that's a title the province does not want to wear for long.

Just last weekend, a total of 10 suspected livestock thieves were arrested in the province. Five of them were nabbed at Sulenkama in Qumbu within the confines of the OR Tambo Municipality.
