Eastern Cape Education MEC, Mandla Makupula has ordered a province-wide assessment of all schools.
This follows a damning media report about the Qonce High School in King Williams Town which is in a shocking state of disrepair.
Makupula said the infrastructure assessment should go beyond mud structure schools.
In his policy speech last week, the Education MEC also revealed that parents had unofficially shut down nearly 300 schools that are in disrepair and sent their children elsewhere.
Makupula says government remains committed to overcoming the infrastructure backlogs in the province.
