A 10-year-old boy was kidnapped in a plantation forest at the Khothana Village in Nqamakwe, Eastern Cape, police said on Monday.
Mesuli Mtebhele and his 11-year-old friend Athi Cekiso were collecting sheep when a man approached them on Sunday afternoon, Captain Jackson Manatha said.
"He emerged from the trees with a dagger knife and chased the boys. Cekiso outran him but Mtebhele was caught by the man."
Manatha said Cekiso informed the elders who asked the villagers to look for the missing boy and the man.
The East London dog unit, villagers and local police went to the forest early Monday morning to look for the missing boy but still did not find him, Manatha said.
"The dog unit is expected to hunt for the missing boy and the man in the whole forest for the duration of the day. A case of kidnapping is under investigation and a missing person profile has been opened." (Sapa)
