East London road closures and other arrangements for New Year weekend

Statement from Buffalo City Metro:
BCMM to implement traffic and crowd management plan during new year weekend
With thousands revellers expected to visit Buffalo City beaches to celebrate the new year, the Metro traffic and crowd management plans will once again be implemented with street closures and diversions of traffic particular in the Eastern Beach and Esplanade on Friday 30 at 3pm .
Buffalo City Metro Traffic Department will implement road closure in the following manner.
Esplanade at Inverleith Terrance
Cadwallan Street at Aquarium Road
John Baillie Road at Buffalo Park Drive
Mc Janet Drive at John Baillie Road
Link Road at Marina Glen Entrance
Moore Street at Fitzpatrick Road
Access to these areas is limited to residents, including guests at accommodation establishments only. Quigney Residents can also gain access by using their water and lights account. Between Court Crescent, Moore Street and Longfellow street will be closed off to allow for emergency vehicles only
Public parking will be at the Old Caravan Park, Orient Theatre, Buffalo Park Drive and Merino road. Access to Marina Glen and little Mauritius will be via Buffalo Park Drive and does not require a permit i.e. free access until all available parking is used up. As a result of parking in close proximity to the beach area no permits will be issued to visitors/beach goers.Residents and businesses within the closed off area will have permits issued to their residences or business. No permits will be issued to individuals at the Traffic Services.
Other affected areas are Bonza Bay area in Beacon Bay ( Nyala road/ Coad Road) and Kidds Beach (Kidds Beach main road) where vehicular entrance will be for residents only and by production of a permit. In respect of Leaches Bay a traffic control point will be set up on the M18 near the Grand Prix Track.
Beach goers are warned against the discharge of fireworks and the drinking of alcohol in public. Motorists are also warned against the illegal parking of vehicles especially across vehicle entrances, such vehicles will be towed away.
Parents are advised to ensure that their children are looked after at all time. Social workers from the Department of Social Development are stationed in front of the Osner Hotel to assists in counselling, tracing parents and in relocating missing children. Residents are urged to contact Mr Mazele on 0730255629 to report missing children.
Beach control
" Marshalls are hired to control Beach parking from 21 December to 11th January in the aid of controlled access and parking for all. This allows clear access if emergencies arise.
" No go areas for vehicles from 31 December until 2 January will be Gonubie, Bonza and Nahoon Beach parking areas.
Public Behaviour and safety:
To swim safely on our beaches always swim on a public beach where lifesavers are available
Lifeguards are on duty from 07h00 to 18h00 at all swimming beaches, with additional lifeguards from 13th Dec to 3rd January
Swim between the lifesaving flags
Do not cross Rivers especially after heavy rain.
Do not swim if you have been drinking alcohol.

Solid Waste
To ensure cleanliness in the beachfront, BCM Metro has bought refuse trucks and will also reinforce its cleaning stuff along the Quigney with extra personnel.
A joint operations centre comprises of the Metro Disaster Management Unit, Law Enforcement, Traffic, the South African Police Services, Provincial Department of Transport and Provincial Social Development has been set up at the beach front to ensure safety and wellbeing of beach goers.
