Buffalo City (BCM) Mayor Xola Pakati has given an assurance that running tap water in the metro is now safe to drink.
Pakati was addressing the media at the Metro's Umzonyana Water Treatment works, in Scenery Park in East London on Tuesday.
His assurance comes after he instructed the Metro's community not to drink tap water following complaints about its quality and change of colour.
He says the quality and distribution of the water has gradually improved, with the exception of a few high lying areas.
"The turbidity on the water has been able to come down to the required levels and the colour of the water is now normal," he said
Pakati said even though the Metro was out of the crisis they still have to implement water shedding to assist in some high lying areas.
"The impact of the storm on our water infrastructure and its magnitude could never have been anticipated" he added.
Whilst the water is now safe to drink, residents are advised to use it sparingly.
