A 41-year-old man is in police custody following his arrest on the N2 between Nahoon Dam and Wilsonia.
Spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says the suspect was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
He says Cambridge police conducted an intelligence-driven operation between various provincial units and followed a vehicle with four suspicious occupants driving from the direction of Qonce to East London.
Brigadier Kinana says when police stopped the car, three men ran into the nearby bushes but a fourth was arrested.
He says when the vehicle was searched police found three pistols, an R5 rifle and ammunition, four police caps, one hat and a pair of handcuffs.
Brigadier Kinana says they also found suspected stolen goods like cellphones and a laptop as well as an undisclosed amount of money.
The Toyota Corolla driven by the suspects was also impounded for further investigation.
The suspect is expected to appear in court this week.
