An East London policeman is in a stable condition in hospital after being shot by one of two suspects on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Khaya Tonjeni, says Captain Fanabonke Ngxovu was in his private car when he noticed the men at the Oriental Plaza.
He says one of the men had a fire-arm prompting Ngxovu to follow them from the Plaza towards Magnolia Street, in Braelyn industrial area.
"When he disembarked from his vehicle one of the suspects turned around and fired several shots at him. The member was shot in the lower body and the suspects fled the scene. The member is in a stable condition at hospital. A case of attempted murder has been opened and at this stage we cannot speculate the cause of the shooting." says Tonjeni.
