A 33-year-old man has been shot and killed during a robbery at a shop next to a garage in Gonubie in East London.
The shooting happened late on Monday afternoon when four men entered the shop - two waited at the front and another went inside behind the counter.
Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana says one of the men then drew a firearm and demanded money.
During and ensuing struggle between the robbers and the employees the shop owner's son emerged and confronted the suspects.
Brigadier Kinana says a shot was fired, fatally wounding the man in his upper body.
The name of the deceased has not yet been released and a case of murder and armed robbery is under investigation.
The suspects are still at large and the murder weapon has also not yet been recovered.
