The Eastern Cape Transport MEC Weziwe Tikana-Gxotiwe says her family is battling to come to terms with the sudden loss of a loved one following yet another accident on the R61.
She said in a brief statement that Monday's accident was a grim reminder that nobody was immune to road accidents.
A taxi driver, who was alone in his vehicle, travelling outbound from Mthatha, collided head-on with a Toyota Avanza with five occupants, including the deceased.
The taxi was travelling towards the Mthatha CBD.
MEC Tikana-Gxotiwe urged road users to take responsibility for their lives be vigilant and follow the rules of the road.
