East London adventure racers lose their bikes in Gauteng theft

Wily thieves have stolen 17 expensive mountain bikes belonging to learners from three schools, including Lilyfontein School in East London, just days before the 2012 Schools Adventure Race is set to start.

The bikes, along with other gear and supplies valued at tens of thousands of rands, were stolen from their trailers at the Tikkies Bosveld Adventure Center on Wednesday night.

Margaret Mitchell, a teacher at Lillyfontein School, says they lost two bikes while 15 bikes were stolen from learners from Hillcrest and Kloof High Schools in Durban.

Mitchell says they will be barracked at the Adventure Centre for two days to prepare for the Schools Adventure Race on Saturday at Mountain Sanctuary Park near Pretoria.

Zane Simpson of Tikkies Bosveld Adventure Centre confirmed the incident.
