Seventy motorists have been arrested for drinking and driving in the Buffalo City Metro area in the past 48 hours.
Charles Bramwell of the Provincial Traffic head office reports that 25 drunken drivers were arrested on Friday night.
Another 45 drunken drivers were arrested in Buffalo City on Saturday night.
Bramwell says amongst those arrested were two police officers, with the one being a high ranking official.
An SANDF member was also arrested.
The oldest person arrested person was 69 and the youngest 19 years of age - 66 were males and 4 females.
The highest breath alcohol reading measured during the operation was 1.68mg/l which is 7 times over the legal limit of 0.24.
Bramwell warned motorists that the operation will continue throughout the Province right into the New Year as part of Operation Safer Festive Season an under the # drunken drivers must fall.
