Drugs go up in smoke as suspect sets evidence on fire

A suspected drug dealer is in police custody following his arrest by the K9 unit in Maletswai.

Police spokesperson Captain Ursula Roelofse says police received a tip-off on Thursday and proceeded to a house where drugs were allegedly being sold.

She says when the suspect noticed police he locked himself in a room and started burning the drugs.

Roelofse says police used force to open the door and managed to seize 12 ziplock bags as evidence, while the rest was burnt to ashes.

The 39-year-old is expected in court soon.
