Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and robbery after a motorist was left for dead following a brutal attack by hitchhikers on Friday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 43-year-old man was driving on the N2 from Kareedouw to Humansdorp when he offered a ride to three unknown men.
She says about 10 km from Humansdorp he was robbed and attacked.
According to REMS Paramedics who responded to the scene, the victim's main artery was severed and he sustained several defensive wounds on his arms and legs.
The victim was found in a critical condition next to the road, some distance from his car.
REMS Paramedics said they treated the patient with SEAL Hemostatic Wound Spray to stabilise, an invaluable agent to stop bleeding.
The suspects are still on the run.
