Holidaymaker drowns in Dana Bay

A 32-year-old man on holiday in Mossel Bay died in a fatal drowning accident on Friday.

Spokesperson for the NSRI Craig Lambinon says the victim and his friend, both from Cape Town were fishing at Dana Bay when the victim got swept away in rip currents.

He says a friend tried to assist but also got into difficulty before being able to get back to shore.

The victim was retrieved from the water and after extensive CPR efforts he was declared dead on the scene.

The NSRI warned anglers on Friday that the effects of the full moon Spring tide will only subside by Monday.

The name of the deceased has not been released and his body is in the care of the State's Pathology Services.

An inquest docket was opened.
