The N2 between Sedgefield and Wilderness is currently closed following a collision on Thursday morning.
The head of traffic in the Western Cape Kenny Africa says a double cab bakkie and truck carrying vehicles collided, however, it is not yet clear what lead to the accident.
He says the driver of the bakkie died on the scene.
Africa says the road will be closed for quite some time as the scene needs to be cleared.
A helicopter was also brought in to assist at the scene.
A Spokesperson for ER24 Russel Meiring says when paramedics arrived on scene the driver was trapped inside the wreckage.
Once freed, paramedics initiated CPR but unfortunately, after some time, the man succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
