A driver and his assistant were trapped in their truck on Wednesday morning after a pedestrian was killed on the Robinson Pass in the Western Cape.
Provincial Traffic spokesperson Kenny Africa says moments after the pedestrian was hit by the truck, the driver lost control and rolled his vehicle.
The accident caused a major obstruction on the pass.
The truck, carrying hay for animal feed, was travelling from Kimberley to Mossel Bay when it struck the pedestrian around 7 am near Brandwag.
Rescue workers were on the scene for hours to try and free the driver and his assistant from the wreckage of the truck.
They were eventually extricated from the vehicle and taken to the Mossel Bay hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Africa says both men are locals from Mossel Bay.
The name of the deceased is not known.
