Dramatic crime spree from Plett - PE leaves one dead and two injured


Eastern Cape police have arrested a suspect for a crime spree that left one person dead and two wounded.

The hijacking drama began in Plettenberg Bay in the early hours of Sunday morning and ended in Port Elizabeth.A man and his girlfriend had stopped at a garage to drop off a passenger, before making their way to George. Two men then accosted the driver with a firearm, before one of them got into the driver's seat. They made a u-turn and drove back in the direction of the Eastern Cape, with the man and his girlfriend still in the car.

Unfortunately for the hijackers, they were involved in an accident in the Thornhill area when they drove into the back of a bakkie being towed on the N2. After the accident, the suspected hijackers fled on foot to a nearby tavern.

There they offered two men and a woman, driving a Golf, R200 to give them a lift to Loerie. They were driving for a short while when one of the suspects pointed his firearm and demanded control of the vehicle.

The female passenger jumped out of the car and started running, when she was shot in the leg and dragged back to her vehicle.When they arrived in Port Elizabeth one of the male victims in the car tried to overpower the hijacker to get control of the gun.

Two shots went off during the scuffle, one hitting the hijacker in the shoulder.After the scuffle the hijacker pulled over the the side of the road and fired several shots into the back of the vehicle, killing the man who tried to overpower his accomplice.Both suspects fled the scene.

The victims were taken to hospital by the police when the injured suspect arrived at the very same hospital.He was identified by the victims and arrested on the sport.His accomplice is still at large.
