Gqeberha police have arrested two suspects who allegedly hijacked a 40-year-old man at a petrol station in Rink Street in Central.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the victim was at the garage at 11 pm on Sunday when three suspects accosted him.
He was threatened with a firearm and told to drive to Richmond Hill where he was ordered to get out of the car.
She says the men then drove off with his grey Suzuki Sedan.
Colonel Naidu says police were informed about the hijacking about 20 minutes later and the car's tracking device was activated.
She says the signal was picked up on the M17 towards Missionvale.
When the hijackers spotted police they accelerated and tried to push the SAPS vehicle off the road.
Colonel Naidu says police shot out the vehicle’s tyres but even than the suspects refused to stop.
The vehicle was eventually pulled over in Khuzwayo Street in Kwazakele where all three suspects jumped out of the vehicle and started running.
A 29-year-old man sustained two gunshot wounds to his right leg and another suspect aged 24 was arrested near the vehicle – a third hijacker is still on the run.
Both suspects were detained on a charge of vehicle hijacking and contravention of lockdown regulations.
The recovered hijacked vehicle was impounded for further investigation.
