Forty-two people were injured when their bus crashed into a river near Dordrecht in the Eastern Cape.
The accident happened late on Monday.
Eastern Cape provincial traffic spokesperson, Tsepo Machaea, says the bus was travlling from the former Transkei to Dordrecht when the driver lost control of the vehicle due "to a mechanical fault."
He says the bus plunged into a river injuring dozens of people.
Machaea says emergency services assisted in removing the passengers from the bus.
