Grahamstown police are investigating a double murder following the brutal killing of a 78 year old grandmother and her 17-year-old grand daughter.

Police spokesperson, captain Mali Govender, says the murders occurred at their home in Extension Seven.

She says their bodies were discovered by the woman's 26 year old grandson and her sister.

Both victims sustained injuries to their upper bodies.

Govender says the victims were 78-year-old Welekazi Duma and 17-year-old, Beki-themba.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

Meanwhile, police in Cradock have begun a murder investigation after the body of the 34 year old was discovered on the corner of Parade and Cawood Streets.

Police spokesperson, captain Stefani Smith, says the victim has been identified as John Smith.

The circumstances surrounding Smith's murder is unknown at this stage and no arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, police have detained a 25-year-old man for questioning in connection with the murder of Cookhouse farmer, Jonathan Troskie.

Seventy-one-year-old Troskie was killed and his wife seriously assaulted in the incident last Thursday.
