Municipal services in Nelson Mandela Bay could potentially come to a standstill on Thursday, when members of the SA Municipal Workers Union are expected to embark on a march to city hall to present a memorandum of grievances to authorities.
Samwu provincial secretary, Siphiwo Ndunyana, says the march seeks to highlight the non-implementation of various agreements between the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and workers.
He says one of the key issues is the failure by the Metro to implement a recent agreement with staff in traffic and licensing and libraries which led to the shut-down of these services in the Metro.
"There was an agreement that was reached with the municipality on how to compensate workers who were not evaluated and secondly the recommendation of the agreement of 2009 which complies the municipality to fill all vacant positions" he said
