Parkridge ward councilor Vimbile Mbinqo says Buffalo City disaster management is currently assessing the damage caused by the shack fires that broke out in the East London township on Monday morning.
Firefighters, police and emergency services were called in when between 15 and 20 shacks were destroyed by fire.
Mbinqo says they are assessing those affected, adding that the relief process will be rolled out according to the identified needs.
No fatalities were reported but a young suspect, whom the community accuses of starting the fire, has been taken into custody.
