A motorcyclist from Despatch was killed on Tuesday morning when he was hit by a taxi on the corner of Algoa and Melbrook Avenue near the VW motor plant in Uitenhage.
Police have named the deceased as 40 year-old Charles Waite, who worked at Volkswagen.
Police warrant officer Basil Seekoei says the taxi driver claims that his brakes had failed.
He said the vehicle had been impounded so the necessary tests could be conducted as part of the investigation into the accident.
